kcwc fall 2012: day 4:: shirred bird pierrot

sew off challenge: shirred pierrot

shirred bird pierrot

next up in the sew off, a shirred bird dress from rae’s pierrot tunic pattern!

i made it in the sooooo soft and wonderful valori wells wren voile in mandolin, which i actually won during Rae’s spring top week (though the shop i actually ordered it from is now out of business, sadly).

i extended the 3T to dress length because Em loves comfy dresses she can dance in more than tunic tops. i figured she could also wear it as a nightgown if she wants to. i shirred the top and sleeves, and since it was seeming a little muumuu-esque, i tied a little bias tape belt around her waist for definition.

aside from the fact that there wasn’t quite enough light in our house this morning yet for photos, this was still a fun photo shoot. just imagine her making elephant trumpeting noises through the whole thing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

and then she danced.

funny girl. give her a comfy dress, a pink room, and an elephant, and she’s a happy camper.

don’t forget to check out Rae’s pomegranate pierrot with rain boots (hehe!). one more challenge to go! think we can make it???

Voile is TOTALLY the way to go on this one. LOVE the dress length, and hmm…mumu…yes. Em is such a wee thing. She’ll be able to wear this one for a long time!!!

I didn’t know you won one of the fabric giveaways? I don’t even remember that.

      it wasn’t a giveaway, i won reader’s choice! ๐Ÿ˜‰

yeah it’s a bit muumuu but she’ll totally wear it forever, which is great. hate it when they grow out of handmades.

Oh my gosh, that first dance photo is the BEST!! That girl’s got moves!! I have some voile I’ve been hoarding. And I loved that line by Valori Wells. I think Em’s little dress there would be super cute with a dark brown jacket and some dark tights and boots. Cute!

Aw thanks, Karen! I had originally cut out the 5T (it was going to be a gift) and I may have forgotten to shorten it back to the 3T on the sleeves…hm….

  3. Jane says:

๐Ÿ™‚ Yeah, I was worried about V’s feeling a bit mumuesque as well…in fact those are the exact words…but she said …i don’t care mom, i like it…oh these girls…they know what they like!

This is so beautiful! I’m doing a round-up post of some of my favorites from the KCWC flickr pool and I’d love to feature yours using the photo from the flickr pool and a link back to your blog post if that’s okay with you (just the outfit, not your child’s photo…I believe firmly in privacy)!

Such a doll. Applejack looks so darling in that little frock and I love that you are a lean mean shirring machine now! Ha! Awesome! I especially loved the line ” give her a comfy dress, a pink room, and an elephant, and sheโ€™s a happy camper.” The bird fabric make it look like such a classy dress! You always make the best fabric choices!!!
