i had it in my head that i wanted to make this exact dress, and it was driving me bonkers that i couldn’t find the time to get it done earlier in the summer!  but finally, with a labor day vacation to central oregon looming, i got it made.

the pattern is jamie christina’s mission maxi view A, a dress i’ve seen lots of gals make (my all-time favorite is Kelli’s tie dye version).  i bought the paper pattern at Bolt, which was a good decision (vs PDF) because the two pattern pieces were so big, i had to move to my living room floor just to trace my size!

E’s first day of first grade is today, so i made her a new dress…yesterday!

first grade already, i can’t believe it.  she learned so much “big kid stuff” over the summer (riding a bike!  swimming!  whistling the imperial march!) and she’s super excited to start a new school year.  we were out of town for the long weekend, so i had to choose a quick-yet-satisfying dress to sew for her to wear on her first day.  i think i picked a good one.

striped julia cardigan in britex knit

The changing of the more “extreme” seasons to the more “transitional” ones always causes me to want to refresh.  And after a nice and toasty summer around here, I’m excited for it to be cardigan and jeans weather again.  So, for my latest project as a Britex Blogger, I chose this great heathered gray and navy stripe cotton knit to make a lightweight cardigan to ease me into fall.

The pattern I used is the Julia Cardigan by Mouse House Creations.  The collar of the Julia Cardigan is what drew me to it – it’s a flattering shawl style, which I thought would look great with the striped, drapey knit that I chose.  It’s one of those designs that seems to look good on everyone!   Continue reading →

my friend Rae’s adorable line of flannel for Cloud9 Fabrics, called Fanfare, is BACK!  fun new colors, same cute animals, and i’m excited to be part of the blog extravaganza today!  my kids are still squeezing into the fanfare pajamas i made them last fall even though both are about 2” too short now, so these prints are definitely kid-pleasers!

i decided to sew a Lua Sleep Sack by Straightgrain Patterns for my littlest guy, in Foxes in Gold.  i haven’t sewn much for him yet, but i thought this would be the perfect project to keep him cozy as we head into fall in the next month or so.  it’s been a pretty toasty summer around here, Portland-wise, but we had a few days of cooler weather last week and it put me in the mood for autumn.
