gold polka dot foldover clutch

i made this little purse for my sister for mother’s day…but i’m just getting around to blogging it now.  meh, happens sometimes.  come to think of it, i still need to blog E’s 6th birthday party too…May was super busy and June hasn’t been any slower so far!

it’s a little foldover clutch i made using my own tutorial (which i had to refer back to a couple times, haha).  i made it out of a scrap of natural cotton duck from the portside duffle i made my brother-in-law for Christmas.  it’s nice and sturdy, i really like sewing with that stuff.  i got it in the outdoor fabric section at JoAnn.

i painted gold polka dots on it to make it all fancy (using this paint – affiliate link).  the clutch, as you can see, is pretty small (that’s just a 7″ jeans zipper on it).  i like making “date night clutches” for mamas of little ones – things that can’t fit anything but a cell phone, lip gloss, and a wallet inside.  i mean i guess you could put a diaper and some wipes in there, but that’s not my intention.  i want her to use this for those rare occasions she gets a night out with her husband and doesn’t have to carry around anything else!

the lining appears to have coordinated with E’s dress!  lucky!

i made a zipper pull out of a little bit of leather.  go ahead and spring for a metal zipper if you make a clutch like this, it makes such a difference!

inside, i put some gold washi tape and a few foldover elastic hair ties (you can buy them for $2 a pop at a boutique…or you can buy a bunch of FOE for $.70 a yard, cut 9” strips, and tie a knot in the end – your choice).

That clutch is so adorable and yay to you for encouraging a little non-kid time!! You are a good sister. I love the FOE trick, awesome. This feels like a real summer post, in that subtle way. Pull your hair up! Go out for a night! I love how summer sneaks up on us in that lovely way.
