did you see that oliver + s has a new free pattern out? they seem to have a tradition of great summertime free patterns – lazy days skirt, popover sundress, bucket hat, and now…sunny day shorts!
it’s a basic, no-frills shorts pattern but the kicker is it has front, back, and waistband pieces which makes it super easy to customize. as part of my ongoing contributor gig for them, i did a tutorial on how to add front pockets, a drawstring waistband, and frayed hem for a casual, day at the beach look.
or, you know, a day on the porch with a stethoscope around your neck look.

Those look so comfortable and cute too! Stethoscope…hahaha!
Did you find them to short, shorts for boys? I printed it out and it hit my boys about 3 inches above the knee even the biggest I needed to add 3 inches to my size 9 son. Was it just me and my printing, haha?
because i did a frayed hem, i didn’t fold the hem up at all and i like the length for boys, so yeah i might add an inch/inch and a half if i made them in the future. 3 inches does seem like a lot, but maybe that’s just the proportional difference between a 3T and a size 9, haha! but yeah, i might add a bit of length to these for boys and shorten them a bit for girls – just a matter of taste, really. 🙂
Maybe it was a dual thing, my printing and the pattern, Thanks for your reply!
too cute! and soooo good for remixing!
sweet, Kristin! I like the frayed edge. Good idea.
He’s so cute with that stethoscope. Like an adorable little tv doctor on vacation.
