first up this week for KCWC, a tutorial by the woman herself, meg “elsie marley” spaeth! i bookmarked her knot shorts tutorial almost exactly a year ago during grosgrain’s free pattern month, and i wanted to make it SO BADLY! but at the time i didn’t feel i had the sewing prowess to create my own pattern. after my stint in PR&P, i knew i could handle it.
the problem was, my sewing mojo was WAY off last night. i made just about every mistake possible, sewed the inseams wrong, tried to fully line them but didn’t think far enough ahead and had to change them to facings, etc. even though i stumbled at every turn, they still came together super quickly and turned out pretty darn cute! oh and she likes them. they’re good for practicing her new skill – headstands. 🙂
fabric is chambray from joann and pink voile from this shirt, almost a copy of the fabrics meg used. i highly doubt our daughters will run into each other on the street, so i think it’s acceptable.
see you tomorrow for day 2! woot!
I have these pinned too! I actually want to make a pair for myself ahahah. I love the colours soo much
Loving that chambray. And they looK so well made. I bet you feel you can handle anything after project run + play!
They look great! I’m sorry your mojo was off – how frustrating! Glad you didn’t give up though, cuz they look fantastic and obviously your daughter is loving them!! I’ve had these pinned forever too. I’m pushing it up on the to do list for this spring/summer! Hope tonight is smoother!
So adorable! I have always loved these shorts but haven’t tried them yet. I’ll have to add them to my KCWC list!
i’ve had these shorts on my list too. love the action shots.
great photos! her legs look sooooooo long!! i love the shorts and the pop of pink inside. fabulous!!
my mojo was off tonight too. i put an invisible zipper in the Sunki tunic and it gave me a little trouble- i should have rethought how/when the facings were applied. it probably doesnt help that i dont start sewing until 10pm. i really wanted to finish the dress tonight, but alas, its 1am and the sleeves will wait until tomorrow
So cute, Kristin! Those pictures make me smile – so much fun!
Gosh golly I love those shorts. Truly. I gasped a little when I saw your email.
These shorts are great! And I love the colours you used.
They look fantastic and I love the colours. Great photos too – I think everyone should have to do at least one handstand a day. My sewing mojo was off last night too – I sewed a sleeve on the wrong way up with my overlocker. Hmm, that was fun to unpick. Other than that it’s been so much fun sewing along with KCWC.
i had already serged the inseams when i realized i had made a huge mistake…but i just trimmed them off rather than unpicking! the shorts are slimmer in the leg than they should be, but they still work. 😉
I love knot shorts, and it is so fun to add that extra pop on the lining/facing! THANK YOU for sharing that your sewing “mojo” wasn’t on last night. My sister and I always laugh and think we are the only ones with spatial ineptness and no mojo! Good luck tonight!
oh yes, it happens to everyone i think! i got it back.
these are SO cute!! love the action shots 🙂
the handstand photos are brilliant !
I like your fabric choices
Hey, I know those legs! Super cute shorts on a super cute girl.
even if they did, I bet they’d both be into the fashion faux pas!
I think you’re right! Mine would probably be thrilled to match a “big girl.” 🙂
wow, what cute shorts! Practical and adorable and great colors! I adore shorts on little kid legs. Tell E we’re very impressed with her hand-stands. 😉
I think your E might need some of these for summertime…gonna need an updated waist measurement!
I love the hint of pink, such adorable shorts, can’t wait to see what you make for Day 2!
I love these shorts! And the pictures are even cuter.
Darling! I can’t believe I forgot about these. Must make asap.
