giveawayday2012

sew, mama, sew may have been one of the first sewing-focused larger blogs i came across…i think it was through their bustling flickr group, maybe?  it’s a site full of great ideas and i’m always finding new blogs through them.  anyway, i’ve never had my act together enough to participate in one of their giveaway days before, but i have something ready this time!

foldover doily clutch

my giveaway item is a foldover doily clutch, sewn by me and detailed in my tutorial here!

foldover doily clutch

this sweet little clutch has a touch of vintage style but the the gray hemp outer and the metal zipper are very modern.  it’s fully lined with a fun abstract woodgrain fabric.

foldover doily clutch

it would make a great gift, but if you keep it for yourself i won’t tell.  🙂

I’m a fan of the really beautiful, traditional Christmas carols. But, I can’t lie, it’s impossible to be sad when “Step Into Christmas” by Elton John comes on! 🙂

  2. Jessica says:

beautiful! i would probably keep it for myself =)
i can’t think of a favorite christmas song because i love most of them, but my least favorite is ‘christmas eve in washington’ which they play on the radio all the time around here. thanks for the giveaway!

  3. Lydia says:

I love this clutch. My fav Christmas song? All I want for Christmas is You. Yes, Mariah Carey. But, we got married on December 13 and that was the last song played at our reception. Good memories trump cheesy music, I guess! Haha.

A prompt. . how about how totally LOVELY this is! I am super excited to find someone like you to follow. . this is what giveaway day is all about.

I’m not really a holiday song kinda person. But put in the Amy Grant Christmas cd and I’m stuck. But I guess I would adore She and Him – maybe a new purchase in my near future.

  7. Carrie D. says:

My favorite Christmas song is definitely “All I Want For Christmas Is You”! But in this case maybe it’s more apt to say “All I Want For Christmas is a Handmade Foldover Doily Clutch”?

  8. erincomptondesign says:

Carol of the bells, also, silver bells, and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Oh I do love Christmas music but I have to wait until two weeks before Christmas to start listening to it because my husband gets all Grinchy if he hears too much too soon.

  9. Emily says:

Cute bag! It’d be perfect for my sister. My favorite Christmas song this year is “Silent Night” arranged by William Joseph. I can’t stop playing it.l

  10. Amy C says:

This is gorgeous! I love the interior too – how awesome is that!!? My fingers are crossed!!!! Oh and I love Little Drummer Boy with Bing and David.

  11. ragpet says:

I listen to so much Christmas music it’s had to pick just the one, but right now I’d have to say Tori Amos’ “Winter’s Carol” is very much my favourite of them all.
Thank you for this lovely giveaway, that clutch is absolutely gorgeous!

  12. marilynmalone says:

“Baby its Cold Outside ” Im not actually sure if thats it title but it wins everytime and thank you for this giveaway I’ve seen this cluch online and adore it.

  13. amy says:

“All I want for Christmas is you” is already stuck in my head. But, I love “Silent Night” because it was my Nana’s favorite.

  14. Maureen Hayes says:

I love the duet “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, especially the Barry Manilow version (yes, I admitted that on the Internet, thank you very much. . . Lol)! I love doilies and think this is simply adorable. Thank you for the chance to enter and win.

    Merry Christmas!

  15. Kristie Fields says:

What a great clutch! It would be the perfect gift for me-I mean. . . my sister. Yeah, my sister! My favorite Christmas song is Sufjan Stevens’ version of “The Friendly Beasts”. If you haven’t heard it, google it. You won’t regret it.

  16. Marilize says:

Doilies! Woohoo! Obviously I am in love with this bag 🙂

My fav holiday song is Rudolf the rednose reigndeer. Cheesy, I know, but it makes me smile 🙂

  17. Rose says:

Josh Groban singing “Oh Holy Night” makes me weak. That is
a lovely clutch you have made. It looks so well done. Thank
    you.

  18. Meghan says:

Love this clutch and I would probably keep it for myself 😉
My favorite Christmas song is “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”.

  19. Alena Belausava says:

Hi! I’m a Doctor Who fan so Abigail’s Song from one of the Christmas specials is associated with a Christmas song. It makes me meditate…
    Good luck to everyone!

  20. Cherie says:

Ooh, ooh, pick me! 😉 I loooove this bag – your fabric/notion choices are always spot on. I can’t really pick a favorite holiday song, but Carol of the Bells stands out to me. What’s yours?

  21. Jodi R says:

I would have to say Silent Night for traditional and All I want for Christmas (Mariah Carey) for modern. I love all carols though.

  22. adrienne says:

    Oh, what a gorgeous clutch!
My favourite Christmas/holiday song is Oi to the World by the Vandals, but I guess a more traditional choice would be the music from the Nutcracker. I’ve always loved it

  23. Abie says:

My favorite holiday song is Carol of the Bells. Love it!

Also, I love the clutch! The doily is so cute on there. I love the design. 🙂

  24. nicoleblum says:

That is very pretty and if I don’t keep it for myself, I think my sister-in-law would love it as a gift this Christmas. I love any holiday song, as long as my 8 year old is singing it!

  25. Tania Howard says:

Love, love, love the clutch. I love most Christmas songs, but my fave modern one would probably be Merry Christmas Baby by Bruce Springsteen.
    Merry Christmas everyone.

  26. Cass says:

Jingle Bells is stuck in my head at the moment. Possibly because my 4 year old daughter goes around the house singing it constantly!
    *waving hello from sunny Australia*
    Have a great day! Cass

  27. Chie (@vivatveritas) says:

love the bag! i like “holy night”. and i hate “last christmas”. i hear it all over the place every christmas here in japan, and our english teacher made us sing the song in our english class in middle school. i got sick of the song!!

The clutch is so simple, yet so perfect! And I think I need to try your pleated pillow tutorial. Thank you for the giveaway!

I love this clutch! My favorite Christmas song hands down is “oh holy night” but really they all make me happy. Except maybe the one where Grandma got run over.

  30. Peggy says:

That clutch is beautiful. i love the lining!!! My fav Christmas song is “Mele Kelekimaka” by Bing Crosby because my grandpa used to sing it at the top of his lungs through the house!!

  31. Nancy says:

This doily clutch is beautiful, thanks for the giveaway and chance to win. I enjoy lots of xmas carols and some of the CD’s I play during xmas are Bing Crosby, Amy Grant, Harry Connick Jr and Jewel to name a few. Happy Holidays!

  32. Erica M. says:

It’s truly beautiful! I hope I win so I can keep it for myself. I don’t really have any particular christmas song I like best, just any of them that my girls sing and unintentionally butcher into hilarious versions. 🙂 webduck27 (at) comcast (dot) net

  33. Allison says:

I love this bag! It’s just my style! I like lots of holiday songs, but my favorite versions are those by the old crooners: Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Dean Martin.

  34. Georgia Brungs says:

My absolute favourite Christmas carol is anything by roger whitaker. I was introduced to his music by my husbands family and now it’s not Christmas for me until we start playing his music!!

  35. MissMary says:

Currently my favorite holiday song is “Glory in the Heights” by Ryan Flanigan. I think it was part of a holiday sampler from Noisetrade.com – highly recommend if you haven’t heard of the site. Thanks!

Love this bag and I would perhaps have to keep if for myself! I am really loving the holiday album Bob Dylan put out a few years ago, it’s pretty interesting!

I really love Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas which sung by Judy Garland. Something about the sadness in her voice when she is singing it just speaks to me.
